The snazzy, up-to-the-minute new hotel, Aloft, 102 W. First St., opened a couple of weeks ago, as did its addition to the hotel noshing and imbibing scene, which they call Corner. Local restaurant veteran Kelly Salat is managing the new space for Indiana-based White Lodging, which is running the hotel and its attached bar.

Situated at the eastern end of Whiskey Row, Aloft and Corner is addressing itself to the Millennial  demographic, aiming to be a happy hour hangout and a go-to spot for those attending events at the Yum! Center. To encourage that patronage, Corner will open two hours early before any major Yum! Center event.

Corner has seating at the bar, on an outdoor heated patio and in the indoor lounge, which is adjacent to the hotel’s atrium. The bar carries in excess of 70 Bourbons, organized by distillery. A Bourbon and jerky pairing is an unusual concept that they hope will be a draw.

Not trying to rise to the status of a full restaurant, the menu offers tacos (fish and pulled pork), burgers and small plates, executed by chef Josh Carter.

Corner is open 4 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday; 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday; and 2 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday.
