Bristol hosting Stage Left Cellars wine night Aug. 20

On Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m., the Jeffersonville location of the Bristol Bar & Grille will welcome winemaker Melinda Doty for Stage Left Cellars Winery Night.

Part of why this is cool is Stage Left’s owner and winemaker is Indiana native Melinda Doty. Her Oakland, Calif., winery focuses on Rhone varietals and produces handcrafted wine in small quantities. By eliminating much of the machinery used to make wine, the winery reduces handling and allows the natural terroir to shine through on the palate.

According to a news release, Stage Left’s winemaking style is centered on experimentation, but finds old fashioned methods delivers the results Doty wants: an intriguing flavor profile accenting the influences of varietals, vineyard and climate.

The tasting event will feature a special menu by chef Richard Doering, available à la carte or as a prix fixe meal ($40 plus tax, gratuity and wine), and Stage Left Cellars wines available by the bottle, glass or flight.

Entrée: Seared rack of lamb with a black bean corn cake, bordelaise sauce and roasted shallots. Served with a Bristol house salad ($21)
