French Wine Class June 13, and Five Course Meal June 21 at Brasserie Provence

A  collection of rosés from different french regions is coming to Brasserie Provence, 150 N. Hurstbourne Pkwy, for the summer solstice on Thursday, June 21st at 6:30pm! Advanced level sommelier Julie Defriend will be there from Vintner Select for this annual 5-course rosé wine dinner, paired with Chef Patrick Gosden’s French summertime menu. The rosé wine dinner is $75 per person plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 502-883-3153.

Copper & Kings New Public Bar, Alex&nder, Opens on Third Floor Tonight

Copper & Kings has been renovating their third floor event space into something beautiful for the public to enjoy, and it opens tonight. Alex&nder is the city’s only brandy bar, and it opens onto a patio with a view of the skyline (and soon – the soccer stadium.) The bar will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. tonight and then Wednesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to midnight (although these hours might change).

The bar will offer a variety of cocktails featuring the Copper & Kings product line (absinthe, brandy, gin, Butchertown Soda), draft beers (Against the Grain, Monnik, Sun King and Modelo), wines, mocktails and charcuterie plates from Smoking Goose.

Negroni Week – Drink For Charity At These Louisville Spots

This week until June 10,  restaurants and bars across the U.S. are featuring classic Negroni cocktails on the menu in an effort to raise money for charities around the world as part of Negroni Week. Traditionally, a Negroni is made with three ingredients — gin, Campari and vermouth — but bartenders have created endless variations. 

According to Negroni Week’s web site, “Negroni Week launched in 2013 as a celebration of one of the world’s great cocktails and an effort to raise money for charities around the world. From 2013 to 2017, Negroni Week grew from about 120 participating venues to over 7,700 venues around the world, and to date, they have collectively raised nearly $1.5 million for charitable causes.”

(Photos, Recipes) Chef Stooksbury and Ballotin Offer “Home Party” Delight at MESA

MESA, A Collaborative Kitchen, 216 Pearl St in New Albany,  is set up like a beautiful home kitchen, and taking a seat at their counter to watch the featured chef of the evening is like being at a chef’s private home dinner party. Last night, June 2,  Ballotin Whiskey and Chef Miranda Stooksbury teamed up to offer a delightful three course meal with wonderful cocktail pairings.  Chef Stooksbury is the owner of Clover and the Greens Catering  and offers private chef services and teaches people how to make delicious healthy meals.

Mesa Co-owner Rod Juarez said that people don’t stop to sit around the table and tell stories anymore and that is the environment they want to create at MESA.

Heine Bros. Closing Carmichael’s Location, Opening at Mid City Mall

It’s been just five months since we reported Dunkin’ Donuts closing their Mid City Mall location followed by the report a month later that  Heine Brothers would be taking the location. Now, locally owned chain Heine Brothers’ Coffee is ready to relocate its cafe at the corner of Bardstown Rd. and Longest Ave. to a larger building in front of Mid-City Mall at 1250 Bardstown Rd.  Heine Brothers’ expects to close the old location on Thursday, May 31, at 11:00 AM. Pending a few final inspections, the new location will open for regular business hours on Friday, June 1 at 6:00 a.m.

Exclusive: Owners of Lou Lou Food + Drink Buy Equus / Jack’s Lounge: Changes Coming

Jared Matthews is owner operator at Lou Lou Food + Drink (108 Sears Ave) and runs both Diamond Pub & Billiards locations (3814 Frankfort Ave, 630 Barret Ave) , but now he is adding another restaurant and bar to his plate. Matthews, who purchased Lou Lou Food + Drink 18 months ago with his financial partner Thomas Barnes, has purchased (with Barnes) Equus Restaurant and Jack’s Lounge (122 Sears Ave) from Chef Dean Corbett. Equus has been in the Saint Matthews neighborhood for over 30 years. A celebration will be June 30, where people can check out the new menu and new look. (The restaurant will not close and will maintain business as usual through the process.)

Chef Stooksbury Rescheduled At Mesa With Shrimp, Steak and Whiskeys June 2

We recently reported on Chef Miranda Stooksbury, Owner of Clover and the Greens, and her three course meal with cocktail pairings at MESA that had to be rescheduled. It’s been rescheduled for June 2nd, and the new menu looks absolutely mouthwatering. She’ll be joined by Paul Tuell, co-owner of Ballotin Chocolate Whiskey for a night of stories and intimate cooking  with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

Mesa Collaborative Kitchen (216 Pearl Street, New Albany) hosts chefs in a beautiful space set up for chef dinners where  24 diners are seated around the cooking area, so they can enjoy the chef’s demonstrative cooking and conversation.

JTown Summer Craft Beer Fest Discounted Pre-sale Ticket Party Saturday

Beer drinkers have one day to buy their tickets for the JTown Summer Craft Beer Fest in advance at a discount. Cox’s Smokers Outlet and Spirit Shoppe at 3920 Ruckriegel Parkway will host a parking lot pre-sale party on Saturday, May 12 from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets will be $25, saving buyers $10 plus fees.

While grabbing your tickets, you’ll be able to enjoy special limited release brews from 3rd Turn Brewing, Mile Wide and Against the Grain in addition to food from El Mambo Food Truck and in-store cigar and discounted beer specials.

The festival itself, at the Pavillion in the heart of J-Town on Saturday July 7 from 4 to 8 p.m.,  promises growth this year with more breweries, more beer, and more bands on two live music stages.

(Video, Photos) Wild Turkey’s Jimmy Russell at Brown Hotel

The Brown Hotel hosted Wild Turkey’s Master Distiller Jimmy Russel last Friday for a wonderful bourbon and bluegrass event on their roof garden patio.

Guests enjoyed a beautiful sunset with banjo music and cocktails from Wild Turkey alongside delicious hot browns,  barbecue,  and sides like sriracha coleslaw in addition to other tastes before headed inside to hear Russell speak about the Wild Turkey distilling process and guided tasting, including Matthew Mcconaughey’s  small-batch line of bourbon, Longbranch — which was very smooth and my favorite. Kentucky Straight Ice added to the unique exerience with premium ice branded with the Wild Turkey logo (see photos below.)
