It seems we may be in a race to see what saturates the market first–hookah cafés or pizza places.

The newest addition to the ever-expanding choices of pizza restaurants is East of Chicago, the first Kentucky location of an Ohio-based chain, which has just opened at 12416 Shelbyville Road, across from the Kroger shopping center in Middletown.

The new dispensary of “Chicago-style” pies makes them just for delivery and take-away, but owners Greg Wilson and Sean O’Connell have dreams of expanding their local franchise operation with up to four more stores, some of which will be dine-in. Chicago-style tends toward the deep-dish style, but the East of Chicago choices also include thin and crispy crust, and crusts stuffed with cheese and pepperoni.  The tomato sauce tends toward the sweet rather than the spicy and tangy end of the spectrum. Also on the menu are salads, baked subs, wings and a few desserts, including peanut butter and jelly dessert pizza.
