"Steam Bath"

Food & Dining magazine wins multiple photography awards for 2012 work.

A series of images published in Food & Dining last year collected top honors last month in the 39th annual Louie Awards, an event produced by the American Advertising Federation’s Louisville Chapter.

The photos were shot by our longtime chief photographer, Dan Dry. In his day job, he is senior vice president/chief visual officer at Power Creative, a top local advertising and graphics design firm. In his other identity as one of the country’s best photographers, he has won over 400 awards, including a Pulitzer and National Press Photographer of the Year.

The winning images, published in Food & Dining’s Fall 2012 issue, came from The Kentucky Bourbon Trail & Beyond feature and were titled, “Steam Bath,” shot at Woodford Distillery, and “Warehouse E,” shot at Barton 1792 Distillery.

Overall, Dry’s work won two Gold and three Sliver awards in the contest.

As a photography team, Dry’s crew of shooters at Power Creative won 11 of the contest’s 12 categories, and as an agency, it took home 39 total Louies.

In early February, Dry took home five prizes at the annual Kentucky News Photographers Association.

Two of those awards were published in Food & Dining: third-place, Photo Illustration, for “Plantain Chip,” a food photo from the story Big Night in the Big Apple at the Beard House; and honorable mention, Feature Picture Story, for “The Bourbon Trail and Beyond,” a 10-image photo essay selected from the magazine’s story The Kentucky Bourbon Trail & Beyond.
