It is always fun to see what new ideas restaurants come up with to give new tweaks to the always-reliable wine dinner. Starting Thursday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m., Proof on Main, 702 W. Main St., will hold the first of three monthly Fork+Bottle dinners, special mid-week events that challenge bartenders to devise cocktails or beer pairings that match a three-course dinner created by the Proof kitchen.

The dinner series will feature three tasting and pairing dinners, each hosted by a different liquor brand. Proof’s bartenders will devise specialty cocktails to pair with the food. Those attending all three dinners will receive a complimentary Sunday night stay at the hotel (blackout dates apply).

Wild Turkey will be the Bourbon brand on Feb. 26. Proof on Main bartender Josh Steffen has volunteered to be the initial mixologist to set the standard for those who follow. Wild Turkey’s master distiller Jimmy Russell will be at the dinner to lead a Bourbon tasting at the dinner.

The March dinner and tasting, on Thursday, March 12 at 6:30p.m., will be lead by Harlen Wheatley, distiller at Buffalo Trace.  Proof bartender Chris Wilkins will compose the cocktails.

Both of these bourbon tasting dinners will be $65.

In April, the focus will be on the beers of West Sixth Brewing of Lexington. At the reception, beginning 6:30 p.m. on April 2, passed canapés will be paired with two beers from West Sixth offerings. There will be a guest lecturer to discuss the beer matchups at  the three-course dinner. Cost of the dinner and beers will be $55.
