Germantown food renaissance gains a bakery

The robust expansion of food businesses in Germantown continues with the opening of JB Cakes at 1101 Goss Ave. Owners Jared Langdon, Ally Sosh and Brittany-Ann Wick make and sell cupcakes, cookies and cakes for special occasions of all kinds. A special feature of the new store is custom cupcakes: pick out your choice of flavor of fresh cupcake, choose your icing and other toppings, and it will be created for you as you watch.

The idea for the cupcake store, as reported in Insider Louisville arose out of a cupcake sale fundraiser that the three owners put on to fund a music festival they were planning in 2011. The success of that fund-raising endeavor gave them the idea that a bakery might be within their skill level.

The addition of head cake decorator Kyle Griffith gave the ad hoc cottage business a boost, and by the summer of 2014 they group began looking for a space with a commercial kitchen and a storefront, which they quickly found in Germantown. They are planning updates to the facade and interior space as time and money allow.
