In a rather quick turn-around, especially by restaurant-renovating standards, Himalayan Restaurant opened yesterday at 1578 Bardstown Rd., in the space that had been Brownie’s The Shed sports bar. Though the owner, Teknath Niraula, is from Nepal, which is reflected in the name of his restaurant, his menu focus will be primarily on northern Indian cuisine, along with some Thai dishes.

According to a story in the Courier-Journal , Niraula moved to Louisville about nine months ago. He had run Indian restaurants in California, and his renovation of the Bardstown Rd. space is modeled on one he ran on the West Coast.

Niraula came to the States in 2007, after working in food service in Nepal. He got his start in American restaurants working at an Indian restaurant in Las Vegas. When he moved to California, he opened two successful restaurants there. He moved to Louisville to be with family.
