Old O’Malley’s Corner space to open as Griff’s

One-time basketball star and now restaurateur Darrell Griffith and his business partner Brian Perry are planning to open a second Griff’s sports bar and restaurant at 133 W. Liberty St., the former site of O’Malley’s Corner. The first Griff’s opened in the Cardinal Towne strip near U of L in early 2015.

The Griff’s Downtown will be catty-cornered from the 30-story, 612-room Omni Louisville Hotel, which is slated to open in spring 2018, and just down the street from the Yum! Center, a location that Griffith’s business, Legendary Brands Downtown, thinks has potential.

Griff’s downtown will have about 11,000 square feet inside and garage doors will open up the restaurant to the sidewalk. The menu also will likely include upscale items (steak, lobster) in addition to the chicken wings, french fries, nachos and burgers that Griff’s in Cardinal Towne serves.

A rooftop bar is a possible addition after the interior renovations are completed. The former O’Malleys Corner and Rocket Club spaces are being combined; the former Coyote’s space isn’t part of the project. Legendary Brands Downtown hopes to open by August.
