That Place Downstairs opens in lower level of Mussels & Burgers Bar

It has been a busy couple of years for Fernando martinez, his wife Cristina, and his ever-growing crew.  His fourth new restaurant, That Place Downstairs,is set to open next Thursday (March 27th).

Martinez, who started Havana Rumba and Mojitos, then left Louisville to pursue other projects, and to continue his culinary studies. Since his return to town, he has opened GuacaMole, Mussels and Burgers Bar, El Taco Luchador, and now, a fine dining restaurant, That Place Downstairs, on the lower level of Mussels and Burgers Bar, Taylorsville Rd. There he will display the range of his eclectic study and work experience that included courses at Cordon Bleu, and apprenticing at top restaurants in Florida and Mexico.

In the current issue (Spring 2014) Food & Dining  ran a profile of the energetic Cuban refugee who has been bringing much joy to local diners’ lives.  In that story, you can see several of the new dishes that will be on offer at his new restaurant.
