The monthly wine dinner at Varanese, 2106 Frankfort Ave. will be tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m., and feature wines from the Rodney Strong Vineyards. Those who have been to previous such dinners know that the special menu, featuring dishes devised for the dinner to pair with the featured wines, is sure to be a treat.

Special guest for the dinner will be Liz Hammer. long-time associate with Rodney Strong Vineyards and now the Midwest Sales Manager. She will speak about the wine pairings and about the approach to wine making that Rodney Strong has been developing.

The meal will begin with crispy fried coconut scallop with vanilla beurre blanc, orange marmalade and baby coconuts, followed by a baby romaine salad with soft cooked egg and charred tomatoes.

The third course will be sautéed wild mushrooms with an arugula and cashew pesto and goat cheese crumbles, followed by a beef brisket carnitas taco with chimichurri and Ale-8 pickled cabbage. The main course will be  a dry-aged lamb porterhouse chop served with a roasted beet puree and braised greens. Dessert will be blackberry, pretzel and caramel nugget parfait with white chocolate mousse and dark chocolate ganache.
