The summertime hipster event space ReSurfaced, now at its permanent (or at least its second year) home at 319 South Shelby St., at the corner of Liberty,  kicks off its season with the 2nd Annual Slow Food Taco Challenge tomorrow, June 17, from 12-4 p.m. The event is sponsored by Slow Food Bluegrass.

Local chefs will compete with their takes on tacos, dips, and desserts prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Categories are Best Taco (overall), Best Vegetarian Taco and Best Dip. Entry to ReSurfaced is free. Tastes for the tacos, and the right to cast your vote, are $3 each. Proceeds from the event will go towards Slow Food Bluegrass’ Garden Grant Program which donates funds to local school and community gardens that engage and educate children though hands- on edible education.

The list of chefs participating was not determined as of this writing, but last year’s Challenge featured tacos from Over The 9, The Kentucky Taco Company, Galaxie, The Mayan Café, Wiltshire On Market and others.
