The Comfy Cow is moooving on to franchising

Looks like The Comfy Cow ice cream and dessert company could soon add a new item to its menu: franchise opportunities.

The three-unit concept has been a hit since opening in 2009, and along the way it has attracted the attention of at least one well-heeled restaurant veteran who sees its potential as a regional, and potentially national, concept.

The news was released at last weekend’s North America Pizza & Ice Cream Show, a tradeshow held annually in Columbus, Ohio, where Comfy Cow co-owner, Tim Koons-McGee, spoke in a seminar about the company’s extraordinary growth.

Koons-McGee credited the mentorship and guidance—and assumedly, future investment—of Don Doyle as key to the brand’s growth and potential. Doyle is a former president of KFC, and CEO of Rally’s Hamburgers and operating partner in ZT Louisville, which developed the area’s Qdoba franchised. (He and partner Michael Grisanti have since sold those units to its parent company.)

“Don has been an amazing asset to our company; his help has been immeasurable,” said Koons-McGee, while advising other ice cream store operators to seek advice from successful industry veterans. “I doubt (co-owner) Roy (Koons-McGee) and I would be talking about franchising at all were it not for his help.”
