For the 29th year Billy Rapaport, who has been NBC-TV’s freelance field producer of Derby coverage, will host his late night Derby Night  Burger Bash. For the 8th year, Varanese, will be the venue for the raucous party the packs the house at 2106 Frankfort Ave., starting at 11 p.m. Anyone who has energy left after a long day of celebrating the 141th running of the Kentucky Derby is welcome to join in the festivities.

The Burger Bash tradition began when Rapaport wanted a place to relax with his media pals after a long week at the track. The free event has long featured the blues artistry of  Lamont Gillispie and 100 Proof, but Gillispie died in the last year. The entertainment this year will be provided by Louisville Fats and the Rhythm Cats, as a tribute to Gillispie.

There will be drink specials, and a simple, late night menu of appetizers and bar bites, such as pork sliders, calamari and chicken wings, and, of course, burgers, and fries.

Reservations are not required. For more information call (502) 899-9904, or email letsdine@varanese.com.
